Samuel Foster served in the Union Army during the American Civil War as a Private in Company A, 31st Illinois Infantry Regiment. He enlisted on 15 Aug 1861 and mustered in on 18 Sep 1861 in Cairo, IL. He was reported missing in action on 22 July 1864, during the Battle of Atlanta.
