He was A VETERAN OF THE CIVIL WAR, having enlisted Dec 14th 1861, as a private in Captain James B. Hill's company I-14th Regiment, Maine Volunteers, Infantry. He was wounded at Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and honorably discharged at New Orleans, October, 1863, on account of disability. Later, she went to Massachusetts where she met William Chandler. William and Frances lived in Lowell, Mass., for several years following their marriage, then returned to Brownfield, where they spent the rest of their lives. They purchased the Brackett Wentworth house in Goodwin Hill on the old County Road. This is one of the old houses still left in Brownfield. William and Frances Chandler had four children, one of whom died in infancy. Two daughters, Rissie and Rosie M. and a son, Lewis H. Chandler were left. Rissie Chandler married Elmer Blake of Brownfield; Rosie Chandler married Abel Eaton of Center Conway, New Hampshire. Lewis Chandler married Edna Stanley of South Hiram, Maine.
