

Reb Motele's father was Reb Meshulam Zusha Aurebach, but since his mother died while Reb Motele was very young, he was raised in his grandfather's house, the Cherkase Zaida - Rabbi Yakov Yisrael Twersky of Cherkas.
Reb Motele, therefore, took on the surname of his grandfather and became "Twersky"
