She was born on Christmas Day in 1811, the daughter of Charles Peavy and Rebecca Matthews who married October 7, 1809 in Hancock County, Georgia. She married Felix Brooks August 15, 1836 in Butler County, Alabama. She was a widow with six children, ages 3-13, on the 1850 Butler County, Alabama census. Her family was in Alabama before 1820 (her father by 1818), so she was a true pioneer child and woman.
