About Rachel Hamlin
Daughter of Warren & Lydia Crawford Walling. In 1845 when five years of age Rachel traveled across the country from New Jersey with her parents and siblings. They eventually arrived in Ottumwa, Wapella County, Iowa where they settled for some years to gain the resources to continue on to Utah. The family then traveled to Florence Nebraska where her father Warren Walling was assigned as Captain of the company. The wagon train headed west on May 30, 1860 and arrived in the Great Salt Lake Valley August 9, 1860. Rachel married widower George Hamlin on September 19, 1863 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. They are parents of seven daughters. Their daughter Marinda Hamlin Ball (1883-1941) died in California her grave-site is unknown.
