About Rachel Isabel Kerby
Rachel Isabel Riggs Kerby, daughter of Nathaniel Riggs and Anna Reynolds, was born in Utah Territory and traveled with her parents to the Arizona Territory in the late 1800's arriving in Pima, Safford, Arizona where her mother, Anna, planted the first cotton in that area having carried plants with her that had originated in Alabama, her state of birth. Prior to their leaving Utah Rachel would meet and marry husband Francis Kerby who had arrived in the U.S. aboard an LDS recruit program ship from the Jersey Isles, UK.
