Notes for Ralph McGEE:

From Roger Wise: A word of caution when thinking that our ancestors came from Sussex County, VA.This lineage has been around for years and no one has never, ever proved the lineage. It appears to have been taken from LDS files a LONG time ago.Even a GG Aunt of mine believed this lineage years back and was spreading it around. Now, that not to say that it is not factual, but, as a professional genealogist, there needs to be 3 pieces of evidence to prove the lineage.

Only one fact is present.David McGee's will has 3 witnesses.Virginia was the only state at that time that required 3....other states required 2.ALSO, it does not mean his parents and he LIVED in Sussex....it only means that his will was made in VA.

Children of Ralph McGEE and Ann CLANTON Wise are:Robert McGEE, b. 1737, Virginia.

  1. Sarah McGEE, b. 1738, Virginia.
  2. David S. McGEE, b. 15 Aug 1739, Virginia, d. 1814, Beaver Creek, Wilkes County, NC.+
  3. Drury McGEE, b. 21 Feb 1741, Virginia.
  4. John McGEE, b. 19 Dec 1744, Virginia.
  5. Anne McGEE, b. 14 Apr 1747, Virginia.
  6. William McGEE, b. 13 Dec 1752, Virginia.
  7. Ralph McGEE, b. 14 Sep 1755, Virginia.
  8. Wiley McGEE, b. 18 Oct 1758, Virginia.

If you know where Ralph is buried please let me know. I’m more than happy to let you take care credit for the memorial. I created this memorial to link family members and in the hopes that those of us searching can stay connected.

I put his birthplace as Surry, because until 1754 that what it was called. In that year the southern half of the county became its own county “Sussex.” The area was also known as Albemarle Parish which was an Anglican administrative district. This was abolished during the American Revolution and should not be confused with Albemarle County, which is a different place entirely.
