Ralph married Leonilda Hall (Ribarich) on September 22, 1948 in Trieste, Provincia di Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. Together they had the following children: Glenda Orth.

He died on December 14, 1960 and was buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Ellis County, Kansas, USA.
