Ralph Merlin Palmquist AUGUST 7, 1940 - JANUARY 9, 2014 Ralph Merlin Palmquist, the son of C. Clifford and Myrtle (Olander) Palmquist was born August 7, 1940 in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Stanek in Bellevue, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 2 days. Ralph attended Burke country school for two years and then Stanton schools, graduating in 1958. He attended North Park College in Chicago, Illinois for one year, and then transferred to Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa. While at Iowa State, Ralph was active in Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. He majored in farm operations and graduated from ISU in 1962. Ralph joined the Army reserves at Creston, Iowa and served six years. During this time, he was called to active duty for six months at Ft. Ord, California. Upon his return, Ralph was united in marriage to Beverly A. Smith on April 27, 1963 in Kerkhoven, Minnesota. They made their home for over 50 years on the family century farm, where Ralph grew up. Ralph was confirmed in the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton and was currently serving as the church chairman. Since 1985, Ralph had served on the Mission Covenant Cemetery board, where he looked after the care and maintenance of the cemetery. He was also a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and the American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 of Stanton. Ralph enjoyed spending time with family, especially attending their grand-children's school and sporting activities. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Fern Palmquist; sister, Alice Hart and brother, Wendell Palmquist Ralph is survived by his wife, Beverly Palmquist of Stanton, IA; four children: Linda (Gary) Stanek of Bellevue, NE, Douglas Palmquist of Stanton, IA, Dean (Monica) Palmquist of Cortez, CO and Charles Palmquist of Bellevue, NE; nine grandchildren: twins, Kevin and Kayleen Stanek, Kyle Stanek, Gregory Stanek, Kim Palmquist, Eric Palmquist, Michael Palmquist, Angela Palmquist and Emily Palmquist; sister, Mary Haubold of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law, LaVonne Palmquist of Harcourt, IA; brother-in-law, Allen (Louise) Hart of Stanton, IA; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and many friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Stanton, IA Burial in Mission Covenant Cemetery, Stanton, IA Rev.
