H. Leland Staats

Funeral services for H. Leland Staats, 61, Nampa, who died from natural causes Friday in a Nampa hospital, will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Alsip Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William G. Arthur, pastor of the Nampa First Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Staats was born Dec. 25, 1922 at Nampa, to Ralph W. and Katherine R. Staats. In 1923 the family moved to California and lived in the Long Beach area until 1936 when they moved to Middleton. He married Dora M. Carter Dec. 25, 1942, at Nampa. In 1946 they moved to California. In 1949 they returned to Nampa. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a clerk. In 1965 they moved to Montpelier, and then to Pocatello in 1971, and they lived there until after his retirement, returning to Nampa in 1982. He was a member of the Nampa First Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife of Nampa; one son, Robert L. Staats, Wenatchee, Wash.; one daughter, Carol M. Hastriter, Nampa; his mother, Mrs. Katherine R. Staats, Nampa; one sister, Pauline D. Groenhagen, Lawton, Okla.; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and brother. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Nampa First Congregational Church, 1007 C. Midland Blvd., Nampa 83651, or flowers may be sent.
