About Rasmus Sjøfarsen Garseg
Rasmus Sjøfarsen was born in 1685. Though he was the second son of Sjøfar and Jøran, he took over the family farm (Vest Garsegg) after his older brother, Tore, died early. He had two sisters, Randi and Maren. He bought out their share of Vest Garsegg for 108 riksdaler. In 1720 his father's brother leased a part of the farm but sold it a month later to Rasmus for 72 riksdaler. When Rasmus died in 1745 Vest Garsegg had appreciated in worth to 324 riksdaler. He did perform outside jobs, for at one point he worked as a minister's assistant. He opened the church services and lead the singing. He also kept a set of records on services, births, deaths, and confirmations separately from the minister's.
