Raymond, eldest son of Alfred and Louisa, was in the First Expeditionary Force AIF, and the landing at Gallipoli. Wounded, sent to England, promoted Sgt. Rejoined regiment in France September 1917, and KIA age 23 yrs on 20th September. See docs
Raymond was a farmer at Kaniva, aged 20 yrs and 9months. His NoK was Alfred Baldock of Jeparit, his father. His service record is attributed to Raymond Vernor Baldock which might be his proper name?- just a touch confusing. He joined on 19 August 1914, just before war was declared. He was at Gallipoli and died in Belgium.
Cpl. Raymond Baldock No. 520, 8th Battalion AIF, was KIA 20th September 1917 "In the Field, Belgium. His death was confirmed in an Army Report B.213, of 29th Dec 1917, made by the CO of 8th Battalion. His service record has a description of where Raymond was buried in the field. It seems he was killed in the Battle for Polygon Wood. See docs
Warracknabeal Herald 1915 Mrs. Baldock, of Jeparit, that their son, Private Raymond V. Baldock, who was recently wounded at Gallipoli, is still suffering with his arm, the trouble necessitating his re-entry into a hospital at Alexandria.

Gunn, of "Fernleigh," Church Hill, Nhill, writes from Egypt, under date 20/1/16—Just a line to let you know that I am getting well pretty fast. I hope to soon rejoin my unit as I have been away too long for my liking. The doctor wanted to send me back to the convalescent home, but I want to get back into harness again. I have met a lot of lads here including Ray Baldock and Don Cameron (Jeparit) and a number of others including Jack Sherriff who has been reported killed in action.

OBITUARY Warracknabeal Herald 22 Jan 1918 After being reported missing, official news has been received of the death on the field of action of Sergeant Ray mond Vernon Baldock. eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Baldock, of Jeparit. The fallen soldier was only 23 years of age. He was the first to enlist from the Jeparit district, and sailed with the First Expeditionary Force. He was present at the landing, and later was invalided to England, suffering from wounds received on Gallipoli. There he was promoted to sergeant, and placed in charge of a section of a training unit. In September last he re-joined his regiment In France, and evidently fell soon after entering the line, being killed on tho 20th September. He was a brave soldier of splendid physique and manly qualities.

He was the first young man to enlist from Jeparit, Victoria, on August 18, 1914, and he left Melbourne on October 19 of the same year. He was an excellent rifle shot and once scored 21 bulls, 2 magpies, and 1 centre out of 25 shots. He was at the landing on Gallipoli and again at Cape Helles. About six months before his death he was promoted to sergeant, and in England he received a first class certificate as a bomb instructor. He was on a troopship escorted by the Sydney when she went off after the Emden. He was killed on September 20, 1917, after three years service. He was highly respected.
