GLENMONT — Raymond Buckland, 83, of Glenmont, died Sept. 27, 2017, from heart problems. He was born in 1934 in London, England, to the late Stanley and Eileen (Wells) Buckland, and was the loving husband of Tara Buckland. Raymond grew up in London during the hardships of World War II and in the 1950s served in the RAF for which he received the National Service Award. He was a draftsman, actor, musician and a comedy script writer. In 1962, he moved to America and worked for British Overseas Airways until he wrote his first book. After that, he worked as a writer and a teacher right up until his last day on earth. He authored more than 35 books which were translated into 17 languages with more than 3 million copies in print. He also lectured and taught around the world. He loved cars, airplanes, pizza, music, long walks in the woods with his dogs and most of all — he loved a good joke. He was a loving, caring man with a marvelous sense of humor and he will be greatly missed by family, friends and fans around the world. Surviving are his wife, Tara; his son, Robert; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his son, Regnauld; and his brother, Gerard.
