Raymond William Scallon was born December 7, 1915, the son of Mr. and Mrs, Will Scallon, and passed away very suddenly Oct. 1, 1948, the result of a heart affliction with which he had been troubled for a number of years. He attended St. Mary's Sacred Heart School and was graduated from Ackley High School. He attended Loras College, Dubuque, one year and I.S.C., Ames, one term, since which time he had been farming east of Ackley. He was United in marriage January 29, 1940, with Miss Luella Eckhoff. This union was blessed with four Sons: William 8, James 5, Anthony, 3, and Thomas three months. He was preceded in death by his father William Scallon who passed away in December, 1938. In addition to his wife and four sons, he is survived by his mother and by his two sisters and five brothers: Mrs. Richard Balch (Kathleen Scallon), Stockton, Calif.; Miss Jeannette Scallon, Stockton, Calif.; Harold, Williams, Ia.; Hugh and Leo, Ackley; Father Maurice Scallon, Waterloo; Nicholas, Ames.
Solemn High Requiem Mass was held Monday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Maurice Scallon was celebrant of the Mass; Father Nicholas Steffen of Ames served as Deacon; Sub-Deacon, Father Braun; Master of Ceremonies, Father Peters, Waterloo; Altar boys Vincent and Eugene Scallon, cousins of the deceased; the sermon was delivered by Rev, Wm. Michael, Cedar Falls.
Among the group of priests from out of town who were in attendance are: Monsignor Martin and Monsignor Dougherty, both of Waterloo; Father Rhulard, Waterloo; Father Goedken, Gilbertville; Father Holmburg, Gerber; Father Neuses, Waverly; Father Krapal and Father Leonard, Waterloo; Father Wm. Michael, Cedar Falls; Father McKinley, Williams; Father Knox, Iowa Falls.
Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery east of Ackley.
