Rayza Rose Sarah/Rachel Rafalin

Rose Hyman was born in Poland in 1821 to Szejny Josielowicz and Kopel Hyman. Her marriage record gives her parents name as Szejny and Kopel, son of Josiel. On her death certificate she was entered s Rachel Raphael, daughter of Jacob and Schoene Heyman, her age was given as 65, and length of time in the USA 15 years (ca. 1872). The Hymans lived in Punsk where they had a flour mill. Apparently the mill burned and one female member of the family was scarred from the fire. Rose married Simon Raphael in 1839 and they had seven children. When they came to the US, they brought with them a young relative named Kopel Hyman (who was born in 1850 and must have been named after Rose's father Kopel). Rose had a brother Maurice Hyman whose wife was also named Rose, and they had a son Joe. Joseph, who was born December 1864, married Rebecca and they had Barrie, Rosie,Harry and Golda. Rose Hyman Raphael died on May 11, 1887 (17 Iyar) in New York City and was buried in Washington Cemetery.
