WILL - DATED 9 DECEMBER 1697 - PROVED 1706 In the Name of God Amen, the ninth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred ninety & seven, & in the ninth year of the Leige of our Sovereign Lord William the third, King of England. Edward Wilson of Charlestown in the Province of Massachusetts Bay in New England, husbandman, being in present bodily health, & of sound & perfect memory, praised given to Almighty God for the same, & knowing the uncertainty of this life on earth, & being desirous to settle that small estate God hath graciously given me do make & ...this my last will & testament - in manner & form following, that is to say, First & principally I commend my soul to Almighty God my Creator & Redeemer, & my body to the earth from whence it was taken, to be therein decently buried by my Executrix, hereafter named. And as touching as such worthy estate as the Lord hath in mercy grant me, my will & meaning is, if same shall be bestowed as hereafter in this my will is expressed. And first I do revoke, renounce, frustrate & make void, all wills by me formerly made, & do declare & appoint this my last will & testament. Item: It is my will that all such debts & duties as I owe in right or conscience to any person or persons whomsoever, shall be well & truly paid in convenient time after my decease. Item: after my just debts & funeral expenses are paid & discharged, I do give unto my beloved Rebekah house & improvement of all my estate, both real & personal for her comfortable subsistence during the time of her widowhood; but if she shall see cause to change her condition & to marry againe, then I give unto her the full moyety, or one halfs part of all my goods, chattels & debts, to be wholly & absolutely at her disposal as she shall ...; And the one third part of the yearly income & improvement of all my housing & lands, during the term of her natural life. Item. I do give unto my said wife all & singular the goods & other estate wherof she was possessed, & which she brought with her, at the time of our marriage, to be wholly at her own disposal. Item: If my wife shall marry againe, then my will is that before the consummation of the said marriage, all my goods, chattels and debts shall be equally divided into two even parts, & the full moyety or halfe part thereof not before disposed of together with all my housing & land, I do give & bequeath unto my two sons & my four daughters, viz: William, John, Mary, Joanna, Katherine & Elizabeth, to each of them & their respective heires & assigns, an even & equal share part & proportion thereof forever; reserving unto my above named wife the one full third part of all my real estate during her natural life, in manner as is above expressed. But if my said wife shall continue in state of widowhood to the end of her life, then all my good & chattels that shall remaine undisposed of at the time of her death, together with all my houseing & lands, I do give and bequeath unto my six children above named & to their heirs & assigns forever to be equally divided among them in manner & form as is above expressed. And I do hereby nominate to ordaine & appoint my beloved wife Rebekah to be the Executrix of this my will. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand & seal the day & year first above written.
