Biography

Reliance Phinney was born in Barnstable, Plymouth Colony on 27 August 1681, the daughter of John and Mary (Rogers) Finney/Phinney.[1][2][3]

She married John Morton on 27 December 1705 in Barnstable, [4] the son of Ephraim Morton Hannah (Finney) Morton. He was born on 20 July 1680 in Plymouth.[5]

Reliance died in Plymouth on 04 December 1735[6] in her 55th year, and was buried in Burial Hill Cemetery in Plymouth next to her husband.[7] John died in Plymouth on 4 February 1738/9 in his 59th year.[6][8]

John Morton's will was written on 10 November 1738 and proved 4 March 1738/9. He called himself a yeoman of Plymouth, and was very sick. He gave his oldest son John, yeoman, half his real estate and personal estate, and the rest was to be divided among his sons Josiah, James and David. The estate was divided by the named sons in September 1739.[9]

In a deed dated 24 November 1746/7 [sic], David Morton sold land to Joseph Morton of Plymouth, yeoman, Joseph Morton Jr. of Plymouth, cordwainer, and Ezekiel Morton of Plymouth, husbandman. Rebecka Morton, wife of David, surrendered her dower right.[10]
