Reuben Taylor Battle was the youngest of 13 children to Jesse Battle ( Revolutionary Soldier) and Susannah Faucette Battle. Reuben was one of the founders and trustees of Powelton Academy of Hancock County, GA. On January 23, 1805, he married Bethia Alexander of Greene County, GA. Reuben was also a Planter and Treasurer of the Missionary Society.
Reuben was baptized by Rev. Jesse Mercer ( Mercer University), who became an active and influential member of the Powelton church and a promoter of education. Reuben's guiding hand and generous nature helped form the community into a bastion of education, particularly with Baptists. Reuben Battle's ancestors were Baptists who fled England to avoid persecution and he was a hospitable man who took pleasure for thirty years serving the Baptist Church of Powelton. as a deacon; he shared his affluence and his spiritual persuasion with those who were sick, sorrowing, destitute or otherwise needy.
His children included 3 daughters;
Amanda Melvina Fitzallen Battle who married Eugenius A. Nisbet. Died 1865.
Harriet Ellen Andrews Battle who married Rev. Charles Mercer Irwin.
Mary Lucinda Battle b. 1819 who married Rev. William Isaiah Harley.Died 1890.
