Son of Reuben & Sarah Ashford (Mitchell) Finnell. Reuben Ellis died after falling from his horse here on his farm, Clover Hill.
Reuben Ellis was a prominent citizen in the Front Royal vicinity. He "served as road overseer, sat on the first grand jury in the newly formed Warren County (1836), and having the largest house in the Bentonville area, he was granted a license to operate an 'Ordinary'." [Loose Branches and Roots, Issue 19]
Reuben Ellis' father, Reuben, was a Revolutionary War veteran from Culpeper County, VA, and a Methodist minister. He is buried in this graveyard, although his grave is not marked.
Reuben Ellis' mother married Reuben Finnell in 1789 in Culpeper County. Reuben's first wife, Henrietta Thorn, died about 1788.
