About Reuben Johnson
Reuben came to NZ in 1860 aboard the "Roman Emperor" (London, England to Port Lyttleton, arriving on 27 Jan 1860). It appears from the passenger list that he was accompanied by a Bernard Johnson [Source: Passenger List in Lyttleton Times, 28 Jan 1860; Reuben's Obituary in Temuka Leader, 25 Oct 1892]
He took on the Licence of the Geraldine Hotel and later built the Crown Hotel in Geraldine.
Timaru CC Burial Database has him indexed as "Rueben Johnston".
