Minister at Dalkeith by 1588, probably appointed by Sir John Maitland [1545-1595], Lord Chancellor of Scotland 1587-1595. His other patrons were Alexander Seton [1555-1622], Earl of Dumfermline & Lord Chancellor of Scotland 1604-1622 & Thomas Hamilton [1563-1637], Earl of Melrose. James VI of Scotland visited Dalkeith in 1617 and had Archibald banished to Aberdeen for 6 months for opposing Episcopal ceremonies. Archibald wrote a biography of his brother Patrick, which was first printed in 1845, and his other writings included a Latin work on references to natural history in the Bible. He died Dec 1628 at Dalkeith.
