Rev. Dr. David Charles Hughes came to the U.S. in 1855. After attending Wesleyan University he was ordained into the Baptist ministry (1860). He held pastorates in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania before retiring in 1901. He was married to Mary C. Connelly. The marriage produced one child - Charles Evan Hughes, Governor of New York, U.S. Secretary of State, Chief Justice of the U.S. Supremem Court and an unsuccessful candidate for President of the U.S.
