The wife and family of a Mr. Ross, between the Oconee and Savannah rivers, in Georgia, being buried in the ruins of his house, and screaming for help; one of his slaves who had been blown about and severely bruised by the storm, but providentially preferred by catching hold of a stump and holding on until the violence of the gust subsided, crawled to their assistance, and labored until his power of exertion failed, and he sunk motionless on the pile of ruins and misery.

I found some additional information on George Ross and his wives Mary Parker and Mary Yarborough through the Mercer Baptist University Library. George and Mary Parker Ross joined The Island Creek Baptist Church Jan. 1, 1793. A book by Lora F West is called "The History of Island Creek Baptist Church" was written in 1944 at the 150 year anniversary of the church being constituted. The book lists a lot of the members most notable to me are George and Mary. The transcribed listing of members shows a second Mary as wife of George. That Mary would be Mary Yarborough who George wed after Mary Parker Ross was killed in a tornado on April 5, 1804. The date of her death is listed behind her name in the roster of members. I believe there toddler daughter Nancy was also killed in the tornado.
The roster of members shows a family of Yarborough's of which Mary is one. There also is a family of Wilcoxon's listed. There are several Ross' buried on the Wilcoxon-Ross family farm in Hillsboro Georgia.
The book also contains several years of church minutes in which George Ross is mentioned several times. A lot of mundane church business.
Of interest to me is there is a clerk of the church named Lazarus Battle. George and Mary Yarborough had a son name Lazarus Battle Ross . I thought you may find this interesting. If you would like to pursue this farther I can send you all my contact information at Mercer. George Ross is my 4th GGF. Hope all is well with you.
