About Rev. Isaac Newton Shilling

THIRTY YEARS A MINISTER OF GOSPEL Isaac N. Shilling Departs This Life at His Home August 30

Isaac N. Shilling was born in DeKalb county, Indiana, February 6, 1848, and died at Clare, August 30, 1923, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Mr. Shilling was united in marriage to Miss Mary Gilmore, of Stueben county, Indiana, February 13, 1869. To this union were born two children, a son and daughter, Worthy E. and Lillie B.

He leaves to mourn their loss his companion of over fifty years, his son and daughter, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild, besides a host of friends.

Early in life Mr. Shilling became a Christian, and when thirty-seven years of age obeyed the call of God to enter the Christians ministry. For more than thirty years he was actively engaged winning souls for the kingdom of God in pastoral and evangelistic work, and was an honored minister of the United Brethren church. A few years ago he was compelled to give up the work dear to his heart because of failing health and coming to Clare, he has made his home northeast of the city near the dam. For the past few weeks he has been a great sufferer but with Christian fortitude, waiting with patience for the summons and "Well Done" from his Master, the end coming Thursday evening of last week, at eleven o'clock. Thus an honored useful life came to the close of its earthly pilgrimage to enter into the "Joy of the Lord."

The funeral service was held from the late residence on Sunday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. C. B. Milberry, with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery.

(Clare Sentinel, 7 September 1923) Thank you, Tom, for this obituary!
