Obituary (most likely from the Glasgow Daily Times)


Rev. J. H. Vance, a former well-known minister of this county, died of cholera morbus at his home in Bowling Green Saturday, aged sixty-eight. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. D. Woodson, of the Peter's Creek country; Mrs. James Bishop, of Rossville, Ill.; Miss Mary Vance, of Louisville; Miss Lizzie Vance and Mr. James T. Vance, of Bowling Green. The remains were interred at Bowling Green Sunday.


The cemetery marker gives his death date as June 6, 1906. The obituary says he died Saturday which would have been on June 9, 1906. Sunday of that week (the burial day mentioned in the obituary) was June 10, 1906.

No. 163 JAMES H. VANCE James H. Vance, son of Thomas W. and Amelia A. (Boston) Vance, born in Barren Co., Ky 17 June 1838; died Bowling Green, Ky 23 June 1906, buried Fairview Cemetery there. Apparently an orphan, he was in the household of his grandfather Boston in the 1850 census, and he was among the heirs in the settlement of his grandfather's estate in 1882 (Barren Co. Deeds 17:19). He was a clergyman. Child: James, went to Jackson, Miss., where he was reportedly killed in a railroad accident. ________________________________________________
