  • P. 361: James M Kirton and S W Kirton listed as serving in Inglis Light Artillery, Palemetto Battalion of Light Artillery. S W probably refers to his brother Stephen White Kirton.

Listed in Williamsburg County, South Carolina History, 1705-1923, p. 468 as trustee of public school district #9 in Willamsburg.

Middle name is up for debate.

  • Munnerlin is seemingly the best option and the one past down through the family. Mundlin and the like seems to be derivations/mishearings. This name can be traced back. Kirton family is from Horry County (East side of Pee Dee River). According to 1820 map. There is a land grant in same area to a William Munnerlin in 1784. The property abuts "Mrs. Kerton." 1800 census also lists Phillip Kerton living beside John Munnerlyn in Marion District, Liberty.
  • It is strange that his middle name would be Munnerlyn, if the paperwork doesn't show any familial connection to the Munnerlyns. They were neighbors. A DNA test would prove if there was a familial connection. There is another branch that did marry: Mary Avant Munnerlyn. Mrs. Mary Avant Munnerlyn was born in Horry Co., December 18th, 1809, and died at her home in Marion Co., near Ariel church, April 25th, 1882. Her maiden name was Curtin. Married to Thomas Munnerlyn.
