Mark Lafayette Olds was born on 1 January 1828 at Circleville, Ohio.1 He was the son of Edson Baldwin Olds and Anna Maria Carolus.1 Mark Lafayette Olds married Katharine Sargent on 29 August 1855 at Minneapolis, Minnesota.1 Mark Lafayette Olds died on 18 September 1868 at Washington, D. C., at age 40.1

Mark Lafayette Olds was a physician, infantry veteran of the Mexican-American War, and Episcopal minister of Christ Church on Capitol Hill in the District of Columbia who stood on the gallows at the hanging on July 7, 1865 of the conspirators in the Abraham Lincoln assassination.
