Rev. Peter Whitney

Rev Peter Whitney ...... Birth: Sep. 6, 1744 Petersham Worcester County Massachusetts, USA Death: Feb. 19, 1816

Son of Rev. Aaron and Alice Whitney, he graduated from Harvard College in 1762. In 1764, he preached in the tavern of Thomas Cowdin in Fitchburg for a year. On Nov. 4, 1767, he became an ordained minister at Northborough where he preached until his death. He was a very organized, punctual and personable minister as well as a historian who wrote a history of Worcester county in 1793. When he walked to church with his wife, the ten children followed in order of their age. Peter Whitney married Julia Lambert, daughter of William Lambert of Reading on March 11, 1768. Their children were:

• 4. Margaret b. Feb. 12, 1744, d. Feb. 3, 1849, m. Dr. Josiah Adams.
• 5. Elizabeth, b. Sept. 6, 1775, d. Sept. 26, 1856, m. Ebenezer Adams.
• 6. William, b. Dec. 14, 1776, m. Zilpah Eager.
• 7. Aaron, born Aug. 17, 1777, went west.
• 8. Julia died young
• 9. Abel b. Nov. 3, 1781, d. Feb. 22, 1853.
• 10. Sally (twin to Abel) b. Nov. 3, 1781, d. May 3, 1864, m. Lemuel Brackett.
