"Robert Liston, born 22nd March 1730, son of preceding; began to attend school 11th Feb. 1735, and matriculated as a student in the Univ. of Edinburgh 13th Oct. 1743 ; licen. by Presb. of Dunfermline 5th Sept. 1753 ;' called 13th Dec. that year (after a representation to the patron, James, Earl of Morton, by the heritors and elders) ; ord. (assistant and successor) 2nd April 1754 ; elected Moderator of the General Assembly 17th May 1787 (he was the last who filled the chair without being a D.D.); died 11th Feb. 1796. He marr. 11th Nov. 1766, Janet (died at Auldcathie, Hopetoun Park, 31st Dec. 1814), daugh. of Henry Hardy, min. of Culross, and had issue —
