Parents: son of John Reynolds and Mary Ainsworth.
Samuel Reynolds , was born in Exeter on November 30, 1681 and died on 25 December 1745. - he married and worked as a Reverend in Plympton, Devon, England. He was a learned scholar, fellow of Balliol College, Oxford, and Master of the Plympton Grammar School.
The old Grammar School at the southern end of George Lane, is referred to by the Devon historian, W.G. Hoskins, who says, "Few schools in England can have such rich associations in the history of painting, but few towns in England can have been so unaware of their greatest son". see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aueCZJDIB-Q Joshua Reynolds, the son of Samuel Reynolds, a Headmaster of this School, was born in the old school house in 1723. The house was pulled down in 1871, and there was no memorial to Reynolds until a tablet was put in the Church in 1904.
On December 9, 1711 in Monkleigh, Devon, he married Theophila Potter, who was born on January 4, 1688 and died in 1756.
Children of Reverend Samuel Reynolds and Theophilia Potter, they had eleven children not include in the list below is Anne, Jane and Elizabeth. Anne and Jane would die very young, but Elizabeth would marry William Johnson and have 7 children although I see they are listed above. see https://archive.org/details/pedigreesfivede02colbgoog a note this is where Michael Ashworth got a lot of his information from as well as
