About Reverend Benjamin Tyree Williams
son of Samuel and Esther Slaughter Williams; husband of (1)Emeline Madison and (2)Margaret Abernathy
methodist preacher
Obit: Benjamin Williams was born in Georgia in 1814, and died at his home in Perry County, Alabama, September 12, 1885, after a short illness. He had lived out his threescore years and ten, and had he lived a few more days would have numbered his seventy-first year. A the age of sixteen he joined the Methodist Church, and obtained license to exhort only a short time after, and was soon afterwards licensed to preach, which he did fearlessly and with much success. He stuied to show himself approved, and thus added much to a meager education and a naturally quick mind-all of which he consecrated to the service of God. He possessed the gift of power in prayer, and frequently became shouting happy. I had but a short acqaintance with this sainted man, but where he was best known he was loved and honored by all. Bro. Williams leaves a wife and a large family of children, all of whom are endeavoring to follow his example. May the God of consolation and love comfort their bereaved hearts in this sad hour, and reconcile them to his providence, and at that great day may the entire family meet in that bright and happy land, where death never comes and where parting is no more.
