About Reverend Caleb Hopkins

DAR Ancestor #: A057932

"Caleb Hopkins, born 1759; Lieutenant, Sussex County New Jersey Militia; died 1824, Angelica, New York. "Caleb Hopkins was a Lieutenant under Captain Bonnell in the State troops of Sussex Co., New Jersey. He was ordained as a clergyman by Bishop White (first Anglican Bishop in America). He established churches at Muncy, Bloomsburg, Derry, and Sanbury, Pa. Later he moved to Angelica, NY, where he died in July 1824. Other places where he lived were Milton and Cole's MIll, both in Pennsylvania."

According to family tradition, Caleb visited his brother Silas in Canada before his ( Silas') death. Caleb was then described as "a very likeable person with a wonderful hat that the children secretly stroked as it was soft as a kitten's fur." ~• from wikitree
