About Reverend Jacob Leslie Coon
While very young he went with his father to Illinois, and in 1845 he crossed the plains to Oregon. For several years he traveled through Oregon and California. In 1851 he settled on a homestead 10 miles from Albany, Oregon. In the same year he was married to Sarah Miller, on Nov 27th, at her father's home above Albany, by Rev. Thomas Kendall. He joined the old school Baptist Church in 1851, and lived a true Christian up to the time of his death. He had been preaching for the last forty years. He moved with his family, in 1871, to Camas Valley, Oregon and resided there to the time of his death.
He went into the Oak Creek Church, 11 miles northeast of Roseburg, over 20 years ago, and attended the meetings very regularly during the summer months. It will be remembered he attended the Olalla reunion in Sept. 1903, and was the oldest pioneer on the reunion grounds, leaving there on the morning of the last day to attend his meeting at Oak Creek.
