8 Rev. William Ramsey Laird, D. D., b on Kerr's Creek, in Rockbridge Co., Va, Sept. 30, 1855 =Mary Ella Penick, daughter of Rev. Daniel A. Penick and E. L. McNeel. He was educated at Hampden Sidney College, and Washington and Lee University, and Union Theological Seminary, Va, graduating from the last named institution in 1881. He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in the Presbyterian Church, by the Presbytery of Memphis, Nov. 1881; was pastor of Mason, Center and Tabernacle churches, Tenn., 1881-83, of Millersburg church, Ky, 1883-87, of Nicholaville church, Ky, 1887-91, of First Presbyterian Church, Bristol, Tenn., 1891-96, and is now the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Danville, Va. He is an attractive and popular speaker, an eminently pious man, and an active, industrious pastor.
