About Rfn. Walter Henry Corin

Walter Henry Corin was born at Ōtāhuhu, Auckland in New Zealand's North Island on 19 July 1895. His parents were William Bennett Corin and Fanny Jewill Corin (nee Huxtable) who had married in Auckland on 18 December 1895. Walter was a labourer before he joined the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 3rd Battalion during World War I (Service No. WWI 25/1238). His father William was a miner before joining the Australian Imperial Force (AIF), 45th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement (Service No. WWI 2524). He was wounded in Belgium and died of those wounds at Wandsworth in England at the age of 45. William was buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery, [XI. D. 19.]. Eight months later, Walter was killed in action at the Somme. He is remember on the Grevillers New Zealand Memorial in France. His mother Fanny remarried in 1919 to Robert St George. Fanny died at Ōtāhuhu on 13 July 1949 and was buried in Holy Trinity Memorial Park (bio by Debbie McCauley, 15 January 2022).
