About Richard Dunn

He is thought to have been born on the family farm at Redruth in Cornwall (alternative suggestions is St Ives), about 1837. A very close and elderly friend of Dick's, Mr Harry Rodda in later years while talking with Dick recalled quite vividly the Cornwall Dunns. For it appears the Dunns where their neighbours for many years in the early to mid 1800's.

Richard had at least one sibling, a brother named Robert, who appears to have departed England for America c 1855. Richard's future employment would suggest he was reasonably well educated in that he could read and write. It's perhaps because of these talents that an Aunt living in Australia offered him employment in her Broken Hill silver mine about 1853. <this sounds dubious, as the Broken Hill mines didn't start until 1883>
