A native of Racine, he was the son of the late Winfield and Alice (nee: Kappel) Griffith. Mr. Griffith and his family moved to Asheville, N.C. in 1962. He was a United States Navy veteran. He was the developer and Resident Manager for Young Life's Windy Gap inWeaverville, N.C. for 10 years. He then was Owner of Griffith Construction for 15 years. He was active with Habitat for Humanity, an avid runner, and a member of the Asheville Track Club. He had a love for learning and education and achieved his Masters Degree in Liberal Arts at the age of 68 from the University of North Carolina-Asheville. He cherished outdoor activities with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Jubilee Choir of First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn (nee: Anderson) Griffith; two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and David McKinney of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Elizabeth and Edmund Robert Selby II of Charlotte, N.C.; one son and his companion, John Griffith and Linda Lee Dyson of Barnardsville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Laura Sue McKinney, Edmund Robert Selby III, John David Selby, Richard Andrew 'Drew' Selby, and Anna Kathryn 'Anna Kate' Selby; one brother, Craig Griffith of Racine; and three sisters, Nan Jean Beck of Arden, N.C., Doris Mae Zimmerman, and Suzette Cabush, both of Racine. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Allen Griffith. A Memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Asheville, N.C. on Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at their residence on Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church - Jubilee Choir Fund, Young Life Ministries, or Habitat for Humanity, all of Asheville, N.C.
