About Richard Maris

In 1705, Richard built a house on his father's original tract in Springfield, PA. The house has been expanded and added onto over the years and is a 2-1/2 story, one-over-one house, now stucco over the original stone. It still stands at 469 Ridge Lane, Springfield, PA. It was owned by the Maris family until 1787 and then by the Worrall family until 1863. A tunnel ran under West Rolling Rd to a nearby house (now gone) and was reputed to be a station on the underground railroad.

There is also another Maris family house, known as the Joseph P. Maris house, that is still standing at 421 N. State Rd in Springfield. This is also located on part of the original 400 acre tract of George Edward Maris. It was built in 1757, according its current Zillow listing.

The "Home House," which was another stone house, and built by George Edward Maris's grandson George in 1722 on the original 1683 foundation, apparently was torn down to make way for a subdivision back in the 1980s or 90s. It was near the current location of Maris Road in the general vicinity of 400 N State Rd.
