Richard Sr. was a prominent Virginia Plantation owner. Richard was stated to be employed to settle land disputes along the Kanawha River by a land holder of Alexandria, Va., but Indian raids & disruptions caused the project to be abandoned. Later Richard moved to southern Va.
Story has it Richards son Richard Jr, disliked his step mother Isabella that one Sunday morning when his father and Isabella were at church Richard Jr. took a flintlock rifle, $10.00 of his fathers money and a horse and left home. He followed the Indian trail into Kentucky and stayed about a year then traveled south and ended up in whats now Overton County, Tn. He stopped at Col Stephen Copelands home and later married his daughter Amelia.
Notes for RICHARD POSTON: he received a good education which he improved with contact with men of education and talents. He was employed by some landholders in Alexandria VA to settle and improve lands on the Kanewha River, but was driven off by Indians during the Revolutionary War. As he was returning through Washington County, he met and married Ann Campbell, Sister of Gen. William Campbell, the Commander of the American Militia at King's Mountain. He settled in Washington County, where he was highly respected.
