Richard "Dick" Reuben Roux (1940 - 2003)

Dick (62), a businessman, and former mayor from Vrede, was found murdered in his back garden on 3rd August 2003. He had been bludgeoned with a piece of iron, and believed to also have been stabbed with a knife.

One of the murderers, an 18-year-old, had been released from the youth correctional facility in Kroonstad a few weeks prior, where he served time for housebreaking, theft and escape. He was found in possession of Dick's cellphone and a ring. Several other household items were missing from Dick's house.
