 FORMER STATE MAN DIES IN GEORGIA WRECK:   

GRIFFIN, GA. - A former Chelyan, W.Va. resident died Sunday when his car collided with a pickup truck on U.S. 19/41 in Griffin, police said. Richard Lee Sands, 42, of Atlanta was driving south about 9 p.m. when a northbound truck turned left in front of him, said a spokesman for the Griffin Police Department. The driver of the truck, a teenage girl from Jackson, Ga. suffered back, ankle and arm injuries. A spokesman said the accident remains under investigation. Sands was a graduate of East Bank (W.Va.) High School and West Virginia Tech. He was a member of Odd Fellows. He was an industrial controller for Abtex Rubber Co. of Georgia and Simmons Mattress Co., Atlanta. Surviving: wife, Rose Darrell Bosley Sands; son, Richard Darrell of Georgia; daughter, Jennifer Lynn of Georgia; mother, Wanda Sands Hedrick of Chelyan; sisters, Mrs. Trena Sue Lawrence of Buffalo, W.Va., Mrs. Beverly Jo Williams of Sikeston, Mo., brother, Michael of Florida. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Weston, W.Va., with the Rev. Clark Craig officiating. Floyd Funeral Home, Weston, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
