Richard Waters, son of John Waters 2), was bom at Salem, Massachusetts, 1669, died at Oxford. Massachusetts, 1725-26. Richard Waters, then of Salem, afid Samuel Rich, of Bellingham, bought one thousand acres of land at Sutton, December 8, 1720. Of this purchase Waters had two- thirds, Richard one-third. Waters bought, February 8, 1728, two hundred and thirty-four acres more land at Sutton of Nathaniel Byfield, William Dudley and Ezekiel Lewis. His home was on what is called the Bullard place. He joined the Sutton church by letter in 1724 or 1728. His will was dated October 21. 1775, and proved February 17, 1825-26, naming wife and children; he bequeathed land he still owned at Salem.
He married, March 3, 1697-98, Martha Read, at Salem, where all their children were born, viz. :

- Samuel, born September i, 1704, married Richard Holman ;
- Mercy, baptized July 24, 1707;

- Lois, baptized May 16, 1714, married Thomas Chamberlain:
