"PIONEER DEAD - - Last Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Riley MANSFIELD, a pioneer farmer, aged seventy-nine years, died at his home near the roadway east of Robison, where he had lived alone for many years. He attempted to arise early Saturday morning, but was stricken and compelled to lay on the floor of his cabin home until after noon, before neighbors went in to inquire why he had not been around the place as usual. As soon as they forced an entrance, they found him helpless and assisted him to his bed. He was given medical attention and members of his family were summoned, but at sunset he had passed to his reward. - - He was buried Monday, October 1st at Ashcraft Chapel by the side of his wife and children. - - He was a veteran of the Civil war and was a familiar figure to all the passers on the road leading past his home. He is survived by the following children; Mrs. Emory SMITH, of Shelburn; Mrs. Charles BARLAY, of St. Bernice; Aden MANSFIELD, whereabouts unknown; Oscar MANSFIELD, of Lyons; Jake MANSFIELD, of Dresden, all of whom were present except Aden."

NOTE: No dates Civil War Vet.

Pvt. Riley MANSFIELD enrolled in Captain CRAVENS Company I, 145TH REGIMENT OF INDIANA VOLUNTEERS on February 9, 1865 to serve one year and was Discharged August 2, 1865, due to the war ending May 3, 1865. The Discharge was recorded in the GREENE COUNTY, INDIANA DISCHARGE RECORDS, Book 2, Page 121. —
