About Robert "Bud" M Urquhart

Pioneer Alaskan Robert M. Bud Urquhart, 77, died Dec. 13, 1995, at Valley Hospital in Palmer. Services were held at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., in Wasilla. Private interment followed at Wasilla Aurora Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gerald Hooper, Michael Hooper, Shannon Rudolph and Rick Shell. Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Miller and Bill Miller.

Mr. Urquhart was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Moscow, Idaho. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1937. He came to Alaska in 1945 and lived in Ketchikan from 1945 to 1964, in Seward and Juneau from 1964 to 1969, in Anchorage from 1968 to 1990 and in Wasilla since 1990. His employment included work at Heckman Dock in Ketchikan from 1958 to 1964, transportation manager for the Alaska Marine Highway System in Seward and Juneau from 1964 to 1968, work at Sea-Land Service Inc. in Anchorage from 1968 to 1974, and work with Bechtel as transportation manager during construction of the pipeline. Mr. Urquhart was a member of Pioneers of Alaska and Ketchikan Lodge No. 151, F&AM, since 1950. He was married to Mary Ann Morris at Holy Name Church in Ketchikan on Aug. 15, 1953. His family said: He was a warm, gentle and loving husband and father who loved being surrounded by his family and friends. His other loves in life were his garden, especially his peonies, and being on the water fishing at any time of the day in any kind of weather.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann of Wasilla; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Gerry Hooper of Wasilla; daughter, Kathleen Urquhart of Anchorage; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Giulia Urquhart of Denver and Steven and Christine Urquhart of Anchorage; grandchildren, Michael and Lisa Hooper of Wasilla and Jared Urquhart of Denver; and brother, David Urquhart of Wasilla. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be sent to Valley Hospital, Bud Urquhart Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1687, Palmer 99645, Attn: Julie Patterson. Funds will go toward purchasing a respiratory machine for the hospital
