Robert Calderwood

Robert Calderwood was born 8 May 1846 and was baptised 24 May 1846.

I cannot locate an 1851 census. It is highly unlikely the family were elsewhere.

In the 1861 census John and Agnes Calderwood were living at 107 Darlington Stewarton. He is a 60 year old carpet weaver. Agnes is 61. Janet 17 years is still at home and Robert is 14 years. Both children are bonnet makers.

Robert married quite young in 1865, Jane Roy - he said he was 20 years but was 19 and his bride 21.

In the 1871 Census Robert, Jane, James 4 years and Robert 1 year are living together. Robert is employed as a woollen carpet weaver. Interestingly Robert is 24 and his wife is 26 years in this census.

In the 1881 Census three of Robert and Jane's children are living with their grandparents and an aunt and uncle. Agnes, Jane and Janet.

In 1891 the children Jeanie, John and Robina are still at home.

in the 1901 census children John and Robina are still at home in Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire both being born there.

Both Robert predeceased his wife with both dying in 1909. Robert was a railway porter living in a railway cottage in main Street Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire at the time of his death. A son in law whose name is too difficult to read was in attendance. (Updated November 2016.)
