About Robert Dickson, Jr.

Robert Jr apparently continued to use the surname his father changed , of Dixson. He emigrated to New England and eventually settled in Stonington,Connecticut where he died on august 1st 1778 in Hartford and is buried in Voluntown,Ct.. No info can be found about his Irish wife, other then she was from Ulster and what evidence I have found so far seems to point to her passing away before they left for the Colonies in America, their children are recorded in Church records as being born and baptized in Celliran church Parish, Tyrone, Omagh, Northern Ireland County Tyrone, but I found his residance in the Village of Carnmoney which was destroyed pretty much sometime around 1695 to 1708 it was/is on a hill top just north of Belfast overlooking the valley Belfast sits in. His Children from his Irish wife where 1-William Dixson born-about 1690 Celliran church Parish, Tyrone, Omagh, Northern Ireland, 2-Robert Dixson III born about 1699 Celliran church Parish, Tyrone, Omagh, Northern Ireland, 3- James Dixson (my Great7xGrandfather) born in 1701 in Celliran church Parish, Tyrone, Omagh, Northern Ireland , and 4- John Dixson born about 1703 in Celliran church Parish, Tyrone, Omagh, Northern Ireland and died Dec.25th 1794 in Duplin Co. North Carolina.

Now I have to wonder if the info others have posted is correct as they list James as being the Son of This Roberts parents (Robert Sr. and Priscilla Dixson) and also list Robert as having a James, both born on the same date and same location, but what is more puzzling is the question as to why he as either 1st cousin or uncle married Jenet Johnetta Dickson daughter of Robert Jr.s brother John and Agnes. The paper evidence does defiantly show that this Robert is the son of Robert sr. who was son of rev. David Dickson (but this is in question as some bios on Rev. David Dickson do not list Rev. David Dickson as ever having a son named Robert) and that he was brother to jennets father John Dickson and that James was his son and husband to Jennet. Perhaps Jennet was the daughter of Agnas but not John Dickson and was adopted by John Dickson when he and Agnas where wed. or he (James ) did actually marry his 1st cosine and had 9 children with her of which my ancestor Thomas Dixson was their 4th child, I find this a bit off considering that religiosity of the family, unless this was permissible in coven-tor Presbyterian theology. If I can ever sort it out I will correct this info.

After the civil war in the 1690s - 1700s the Presbyterian fighters in Northern Ireland found that they where held in worse contempt by the church of Ireland (angelicans) then they treated the Catholics, their marriages where not recognized as valid so any children where listed as being of natural conception not lawful so they could not inherit their parents property, hold public office, or even receive the sacraments in church. The penal laws where just as enforced on them as they where on Catholics, which made life almost impossible for them in Ireland and they could not go back to Scotland as they where considered Traitors to the crown because they would not sign the black oath, so they then moved to New England-Boston with his brother John and his family, and ended up getting/buying land in Voluntown, Ct. and lived out their days there.
