In 1854 she was married, aged 28 to Robert Dodds, Blacksmith, also aged 28.They were both residing in New Elvet, Durham at that time.She was the daughter of Joseph Nattrass, Quarryman.They subsequently went on to live in the "Gas House" 29 Framwellgate, Durham where Robert was employed by the Durham City Gas Company.

Following her husbands death in 1877, she practised as a midwife in the Durham City area.
