He attended the Law classes at the University of Edinburgh, and was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1887. In the course of time he built up an extensive and lucrative practice, which included an unusually large proportion of heavy litigations on conveyancing questions...
...In 1893 he married Lady Constance Bowes-Lyon, eldest daughter of the 13th Earl of Strathmore. Lord Blackburn is survived by his wife and three daughters. His only son died some years ago."
