"Lord Blackburn, an uncle of the former Queen by marriage and a former Judge of the Court of Session, died at his Edinburgh home, Ellerton, 125 Grange Loan, on Tuesday night. His wife Lady Constance Blackburn, is sister of the Earl of Strathmore, the Queen's father...

...Robert Francis Leslie Blackburn, who was born in 1864, came of legal stock, for his father, Mr Robert Blackburn, was a member of the Scottish Bar, an Advocate-Depute, and Sheriff of-Stirling and Linlithgow; while his uncle, Lord Blackburn, was a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, and one of the greatest names in the history of English law...

...Educated at Clifton and Trinity College, Cambridge, Mr Blackburn graduated with Honours in Mathematics. He attended the Law classes at the University of Edinburgh, and was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1887. In the course of time he built up an extensive and lucrative practice, which included an unusually large proportion of heavy litigations on conveyancing questions...

...In 1893 he married Lady Constance Bowes-Lyon, eldest daughter of the 13th Earl of Strathmore. Lord Blackburn is survived by his wife and three daughters. His only son died some years ago."
