Robert Hamilton "Went Down To the Sea" during the blizzard of February 24-25, 1862 onboard the Schooner Contest (pronounced as in argue as opposed to a game.) The Yeoman of the ship misspelled his name as Hambleton. Agnes M. O'Connell Healey (Robert's granddaughter) was a VIP at the 1925 unveiling of The Fisherman Monument in Gloucester...she told me that she corrected the official record in Gloucester. Eighty Five years later, I went to check to verify whether the records had been updated and, they have.
Newburyport Daily Herald reports death of Robert and his cousin Michael Welch (no report of Roach...so perhaps they lived in a different town...but name is on the Hamilton Cenotaph/Grave in St. Mary's Cemetary in NBPT. http://newburyport.advantage-preservation.com/Viewer/?i=f&d=0101183...
