About Robert Stanley Holifield

TUSCALOOSA | Robert Stanley Holifield, age 79, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., passed away on July 2, 2014, in Tuscaloosa. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at St. Matthias Episcopal Church with The Rev. Monica Carlson officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. A reception will follow services at the Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Fulton Holifield; his mother, Belle Adcock Holifield; and his first wife, Ann Minot Holifield.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Smith Holifield; his daughters, Anne Holifield (Paul Madsen), Louise Manos, Mary Kennady (Mark), Kathleen Graves, and Jennifer Hinson (Rice); his sister, Sally Manning (Jerry0; and his grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, and Katie Manos; Stan and Sarah Grace Kennady; William, Boyd and Robert Graves; and Samuel Woods Hinson.
Stan was born in Jackson, MS, and moved to Tuscaloosa in 1943. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High and earned a B.S. degree from the University of Alabama. He began flying as a child and became an avid private pilot from the first time he stepped into an airplane. He was also an accomplished published writer of his memoirs.
Stan owned the Jr. Food Marts in Tuscaloosa and brought ICEE's to Alabama, He was a founding member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and was a popular EYC leader for many years.
Stan's entrepreneurial spirit led him and his like-minded colleagues to develop the West Alabama Food Bank where he served as their executive Director for a number of years. He was a well-traveled soul and a high-flying spirit.
